On January 27, 1963, just two months after having met her, Dad proposed to Mom in a coffee house in Okinawa. They were married on October 5, 1963 before some 200 friends. But the FBIS felt that the new Mrs. Jewell should become acquainted with her adopted homeland, so they sent Dad back to Washington. In the summer of 1964, Dad, Mom, and the three children sailed from Yokohama, Japan, and arrived 12 days later, via Honolulu, in San Francisco. By the fall, they had settled into the Fairfax home. |
