We know he was in the 66th Panther Division, Company K, I believe. His story matches many others I have read. I'd love to hear from other survivors if any remember him.

2011-01-30 - Scott Crary wrote: My father, Paul Crary, was a tech sergeant with the 66th panther Division (721st(?) field artillery battalion) and fought at the Lorient pocket. Speaking some college French, he functioned as a de facto interpreter and secured calvados from the local French populace for his company in exchange for cigarettes and chocolate. They were stationed near Plouay. He used to tell me about the artillery duels with the Germans and how cold and damp it was for the winter months they were there. He swore he'd never sleep in a tent again and refused to ever go camping with us. I'd love to hear from anyone who knew him in Camp Rucker, Camp Robinson or Brittany.

Dad passed away in Dec 1995. He didn't tell a lot of stories and didn't like talking much about the war. Does anyone know if his company was onboard the Cheshire when the torpedo struck the Leopoldville. The division book I have mentions the event but not any details. I'm sure it was published well before the full extent of the desaster became public.

I do not believe I have seen how the rest of the units got across, except in the biographical letter, that some units were in smaller vehicles that could drive ashore? Just wondered how my dad might have gotten across the channel. He said he was on the docks when the Leapolville was loaded. Thanks

I have a photo of him in the Arles Staging area in July 45. I remember him talking about Little Rock and Ft. Rucker. Shipping overseas, they missed their boarding and had to be put on the next ship. Their original ship was torpedoed. Do not know if this was an Atlantic or Cannel crossing or the names of he vessels. In France / Germany he was a platoon sargent for heavy machine guns. Any information or contacts would be appreciated.
